Why do a NEIGHBOURHOOD ​PLAN?
Many more new houses will be built in our area, whether we like it or not.
Complaining will have little or no effect. A Neighbourhood Plan would.
The government has a national target to deliver 1.5 million homes across the country.
​In North Yorkshire the target is over 4,000 per year, every year. (If the target is not met in one year, it is carried forward to the next.)
That's like a new town every year and is likely to be focused on existing population centres, like ours.
​Many consider those numbers:
  • are unachievable given previous delivery rates
  • ​would bring unreasonable pressure on the county's rural land
  • are out of step with historical rates of development (less than 3,000 a year).
Despite this, it will go ahead in some form.
The upcoming Local Plan from NYC will be addressing how to achieve the numbers. A Neighbourhood Plan for Tockwith with Wilstrop can be part of that and give residents some say in what developments take place around here and how.
